Tanintharyi welcomes returning migrants
Migrant workers continue returning to the Kawthoung border, Tanintharyi Region, to avoid the new foreign labour law in Thailand.
On July 20, 82 migrant workers returned
home from the Thai port of Ranong. They were brought back by the town's
border committee.
A volunteer from Kawthoung Township
said: “Most of returnees are released from prisons. Thailand sends them
back along with other migrant workers. Government departments and social
organisations are helping them by providing their accommodation and
return trips to their homes.”
Forty migrants from upper Myanmar and 42 from Tanintharyi Region have been transported home free of cost.
